how i work: a clear process

Every building requires a different approach, but the process is always clear and deliberate.

Assessment & material identification

Before any work begins, I identify the original materials and construction methods.
Cast iron, wrought iron, steel, wood, stone, and later additions all behave differently. Understanding what is original, what was added later, and how these elements interact is essential to making the right decisions.

Structural evaluation & decision making

Once the structure is exposed, I evaluate what can be preserved, repaired or reinforced.
Full replacement is not always the best solution, especially when it risks damaging surrounding historic elements.
The goal is to choose the safest, most durable and most realistic solution for the building.

Restoration & selective replacement

Where possible, original elements are cleaned, repaired and reused.
Only parts that are structurally compromised are replaced, using compatible materials and techniques.
This approach preserves the character while ensuring long-term stability.

Finishing, comfort & protection

A restored building must also function in todays world.
Choices such as insulation, glazing or finishes are always balanced between authenticity, comfort and regulations.
The aim is not perfection, but a durable result that respects both the building and its occupants.

Restoration is about understanding what can be saved, not replacing what can still be repaired.
